Download Biology: A Global Approach (12th Global Ed.) by Neil A. Campbell, Lisa A. Urry, Michael L. Cain, Steven A. Wasserman, Peter V. Minorsky, and Rebecca B. Orr.
According to the authors, “We are proud to present Biology: A Global Approach, adapted from the Twelfth Edition of Campbell Biology for an international audience. For over three decades, Biology has been the leading college textbook in the biological sciences, translated into 19 languages and used by millions of students to build a strong foundation in biology. Its enduring success reflects not only Neil Campbell’s original vision but also the invaluable contributions of hundreds of reviewers, along with editors, artists, and contributors who have continuously refined and inspired this work.
In this Twelfth Edition, our primary goals are:
- Enhancing student learning through new visual content and study tools
- Assisting instructors with new teaching modules, including resources for introducing, teaching, and assessing complex topics
- Seamlessly integrating text and media to engage students in an active, inquiry-based learning experience
At the core of this edition is our unwavering commitment to delivering content that is accurate, up-to-date, and infused with our passion for teaching biology.”
These edits improve readability by adding italics for book titles and a clearer list format for the goals. Otherwise, the text is excellent.
We are excited to introduce the new features we’ve developed for the Twelfth Edition.
- Re-envisioned Chapter Openers: Based on feedback from students and instructors, informed by data analytics, and grounded in educational research, we have completely redesigned the opening of each chapter. The result is more visual, interactive, and engaging. Instead of the traditional narrative, the first page now includes three key elements that provide students with the tools needed to achieve the chapter’s learning objectives:
- Visual Overview: Centered around a key biological question related to the chapter’s opening photo and legend, the Visual Overview highlights a core concept of the chapter with clear illustrations and concise text. This gives students an immediate understanding of the chapter’s focus and the type of thinking required for its exploration.
- Study Tip: While the Visual Overview introduces what students will learn, the study tip offers strategies for how to learn. It encourages active learning through methods like drawing flowcharts, labeling diagrams, or creating tables. Each tip presents an effective way to approach key content in the chapter.
- Updated Content: As with every edition of Biology, the Twelfth Edition includes updated content, summarized on pages 19–21. These updates reflect the rapid advancements in areas like climate change, genomics, CRISPR gene-editing technology, evolutionary biology, and microbiome-based therapies. Additionally, Unit 7 features a new section titled “Biological Sex, Gender Identity, and Sexual Orientation in Human Sexuality,” providing a thoughtful and current introduction to topics that are highly relevant to biology, student lives, and ongoing public discourse.
- Ready-to-Go Teaching Modules: These modules provide instructors with active learning exercises and in-class questions, along with Mastering Biology assignments that can be used before and after class. A total of 15 modules are now available in the Instructor Resources section of Mastering Biology.
This edition incorporates innovative tools and fresh content, designed to enhance both teaching and learning in today’s dynamic educational environment.”
