Download Netter’s Infectious Diseases (2nd edition) by Elaine C. Jong and Dennis L. Stevens.
Netter’s Infectious Diseases, 2nd Edition, is a valuable resource for students, residents, generalists, and specialists, providing essential information on infectious diseases in a visually engaging and easily digestible format. This edition features concise visual summaries of key topics, making it an efficient and reliable tool for reviewing fundamental concepts or sharing information with patients and staff.
Authored by Drs. Elaine Jong and Dennis Stevens, the book explores a broad range of illnesses within this intricate field, utilizing memorable illustrations by the esteemed Frank H. Netter and other artists. It offers a comprehensive and authoritative overview of infectious disease risk factors, clinical presentations, pathophysiology, and more, saving readers time while enhancing their understanding.
According to the authors, “As longtime colleagues in the Division of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, we are honored to have had the unique opportunity to develop a new textbook on infectious diseases. Our aim is to leverage the stunning medical illustrations of the late Dr. Frank H. Netter to enhance the understanding of key concepts in this field.
Recognizing the significance of established texts like Mandell’s Principles and Practice of Infectious Diseases, which are revered for their authoritative content, we sought to create a fresh resource with a strong clinical focus. The first edition of Netter’s Infectious Diseases was launched in 2012, and this second edition continues our mission to equip healthcare providers—both generalists and specialists—with contemporary clinical approaches to the wide array of infectious diseases, considering their impact on patients as individuals, community members, and global citizens.
In light of the swift advancements in medical science, the specialty of infectious diseases encompasses numerous branches and subspecialties. We were fortunate to enlist exceptional Section Editors: Patrick W. Hickey (Vaccine-Preventable Diseases in Children and Adolescents), Thomas M. File, Jr. (Respiratory Tract Infections), E. Patchen Dellinger (Surgical Infections), Jeanne M. Marrazzo (Sexually Transmitted Infections), Vernon Ansdell (Parasitic Diseases), and M. Patricia Joyce (Emerging Infectious Diseases and Pandemics). Dennis L. Stevens and I also contributed as Section Editors for Skin and Soft-Tissue Infections, Systemic Infections, and Infections Associated with International Travel and Outdoor Activities.
A talented group of contributing authors, drawn from our extensive network of colleagues and friends, provided their expertise to craft concise, accessible, and clinically relevant chapters. Each chapter incorporates Dr. Netter’s iconic medical illustrations—some updated to reflect recent advancements—alongside radiographic and photographic images, tables, and graphs. In addition, new artwork has been created by Carlos A. G. Machado, Tiffany S. DaVanzo, and Anita Impagliazzo, continuing Dr. Netter’s legacy of using art as a vital educational tool.”
